BIDDING TO BECOME EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2008
In just over five years time it is the UK's turn for one of its cities to be European Capital of Culture. The economic and social dividends for the selected city are momentous. In March 2002 the Newcastle-Gateshead Initiative entrusted me with writing the Story which is central to their bid. Six weeks, 12 meetings and 15,000 words later the submission joined the those of the ten other contending cities. Currently Newcastle-Gateshead is the media favourite. The short-list will be announced in October.
